Dewberry Hotel Finally Under Way on Meeting Street

After purchasing the former federal building in 2008 for $15M, John Dewberry of Atlanta has begun to work on what he expects to be a 5-star hotel that will open in late 2015 after he has now secured a reported $35M loan from NBSC.  Abigail Darlington of The Post and Courier has the article.

CHS Trade At $37.8 Billion – Brookings Institution

The renowned Brookings Institution put CHS’ annual commodities trade at about $38B with its largest trading partners being within the state ($2.3B), and Atlanta ($2.0B), Columbia ($1.4B), NC outside Charlotte ($1.15B) and metro Charlotte ($1.1B).  The items being shipped were primarily chemicals and plastics, metals, machinery, transportation equipment and electronics.  The Charleston Regional Business Journal has excerpts from the report, Mapping Freight:  The Highly Concentrated Nature of Goods Trade in the United States.

Myrtle Beach Tourism Strongest in Decade

Researchers report that the Grand Strand’s tourism season for the Fall was the best they had reported in 10 years since they began tracking figures.  Hotel occupancies from mid-September to mid-October were up 14 percent compared to the same period in 2013.  YAY for <$3.00/gallon gas!  Link to the Post and Courier article and the report from The Sun News of Mrytle Beach.

New Junior Anchor Announced for Bowman Center Retail Development

Kitchen & Company, an upscale cookware store, has announced it will join Dick’s Sporting Goods and Nordrstom Rack in a 125k SF retail center at the former KMart store at Bowman Road and US 17 in Mt Pleasant.  Most stores in the 6-unit chain are in the Northeast and the company is headquartered in Delaware; its nearest store is in Asheville, NC.  Abigail Darlington of The Post and Courier has the announcement.

New Apartment Development Proposed For Downtown’s West Side

With just 60 units, and some of those “workforce housing”, a $15M apartment project has been proposed for the corner of Spring Street and Septima P. Clark Expressway on the west side of downtown near the medical district.  Warren Wise of The Post and Courier has the story.

Another Boeing Order – This One for 80 737MAX’

Now at 2,400 planes on order, Boeing announced a leasing company’s order to purchase $8.5B for 80 737 MAX jets.  Boeing is building a plant in Palmetto Commerce Park in N CHS that makes engine components for the 737 MAX.  Warren Wise of The Post and Courier has the announcement.

JOBS ! 600 More Being Consolidated at Roper’s New Palmetto Commere Park Office Building

Another job announcement.  Roper St. Francis Healthcare announced today its consolidation of about 600 area jobs to a new 130k SF office building at Palmetto Commerce Park in N CHS.  John McDermott of The Post and Courier has the announcement.

East-West Partners Announces 7 Calhoun Street Condo Development Downtown

East-West Partners, based in Colorado, announced that their plans will be finalized and announced in early 2015, for a $100M project on 4 acres downtown at 7 Calhoun Street, across from the Aquarium parking garage and adjacent to the city’s Gadsdenboro Park.  Unconfirmed, but the development is expected to include condominiums, an upscale hotel and retail uses.  Ashley Heffernan of The Charleston Regional Business Journal has the story.

Another N. CHS Company Expanding

Anyware Express is expanding in Palmetto Commerce Parkway in N CHS, opening a 100k SF warehouse it will share with Foodhandler at 9016 Palmetto Commerce Parkway in Palmetto Commerce Park.   Warren Wise of The Post and Courier has the announcement.
