Kimco Realty finally publicly revealed its plans to add Harris Teeter to the mix at Westwood Plaza Shopping Center in West Ashley, adjacent Barnes & Noble. Office Depot and TJMaxx also co-tenant the center. Warren Wise of The Post and Courier has the announcement here. Kimco renovated the St. Andrews Center anchored also by Harris Teeter and West Marine/Petco/Stein Mart on Savannah Hwy back in 2009. John Orr, CCIM, and Elyse Chubb Welch, CCIM, handle the local leasing for Kimco in each of these centers.
HarrisTeeter, now a unit of The Kroger Co., opened at 1739 Maybank Highway on James Island, one of seven stores it acquired from Piggly Wiggly in 2013. The 43k SF store is the 6th in the CHS region. Warren Wise has the announcement for The Post and Courier along with other retail stories.
Colliers International’s John Orr, CCIM, confirms that HarrisTeeter will open a new store at Westwood Plaza on Sam Rittenberg at Ashley River Road in West Ashley and will co-anchor the center with TJMaxx and Barnes & Noble Books. It opened a nearby store just a couple of years ago at St. Andrews Shopping Center on Savannah Hwy., just 2.4 miles to the southeast. But it keeps Publix out of West Ashley, at least Lower West Ashley…
John Orr also says Crust Wood Fired Pizza will open its 2nd area location, this one in Summerville at the EarthFare-anchored center on N. Main Road. Also, from Warren Wise of The Post and Courier:
- Bohicket Marina is getting a new Mexican restaurant, Arriba Cantina Cocina opened in late April.
- The area’s 10th Bojangles will open soon at Ladson Road and Palmetto Commerce Parkway at the entrance to the job-magnet Palmetto Commerce Park.
- A new pawn shop, with 4k SF, will open this summer at 113-C/D College Park Road in Ladson.
- Pierpont Crossing, at 2408 Ashley River Road, has leased space to Pluff Mud Love, a beauty supply store.
- Felice Designs is closing at 424 King St. and will operate out of the owners house on James Island.
With somewhat of a local cult following, Pigg closed 28 stores about a year ago, replaced mostly by Bi-Los and a few Harris Teeters. Does anyone miss them? Find out in Abigail Darlington’s article in the Post and Courier.
Sawmill Village Harris Teeter, at 680 Bacons Bridge Road, will have its grand opening next week in the former Piggly Wiggly center at Bacons Bridge Road and Old Trolley Road in Summerville. This is their second new store in the past year in Summerville; another new Harris Teeter opened in January at the Corner at Wescott at 9500 Dorchester Road on the southwest side of Summerville. The Charleston Regional Business Journal has the announcement on Sawmill Village opening.
Rivers Enterprises has submitted plans with the city for a proposed retail center on a 16-acre site that would include a new 53,000SF Harris Teeter store, plus five smaller retail buildings and two outparcels. The site is at the intersection of Glenn McConnell Parkway and Bees Ferry Road outside I-526 and across Bees Ferry from the Wal-Mart SuperCenter. Abigail Darlington of The Post and Courier has the story.
HT bought 7 Piggs locally, but the one at 1739 Maybank Hwy will be completely remodeled and reopen in late 2014, suggesting they have great hopes for this well located store. See the Post and Courier’s Abigail Darlington’s brief update.
