The BigKmart at 8571 Rivers Avenue in (far) North Charleston will close in March, one of 78 stores (and 26 Sears) announced – and 30 Kmarts and 16 Sears announced in late December. Abigail Darlington reports for The Post and Courier that Nordstrom Rack, the off-price apparel store, has confirmed it is opening its first CHS region store at Bowman Place, the name what will be a re-developed center where the dark KMart sits today. Dick’s Sporting Goods will co-anchor the center that is being developed by Grove Property Fund. Opening is scheduled for late 2015. Nordstrom Rack will also deliver stores in Greenville and Columbia.

Ashley Barker of The Charleston Regional Business Journal reports the aged KMart on Savannah Hwy will close its doors for good in April as the site is re-developed. Colliers’ John Orr, CCIM, our local retail guru, says the site was sold to Hendrick Automotive Group for a car dealership.
